TECHNIQUES APPLIED

PROJECT 2A
I applied the masking techniques to remove the background of the portraits. Then, I used the clipping mask to add the pictures that I wanted to blend in the portrait and applied the brush tool to reveal the face of the portrait that was covered by the image selected. After that, I edited the curve of the image to make it lighter and I also applied the gradient blending mode to help me change the overall tone of the photo manipulated image.

PROJECT 2B
For the photoshoot, I applied the eye-level shot and placed the objects on a white background and a grey mat on the surface. I also tied a string to the lint roller to make the handle visible upon shooting. During the editing process, I masked the lint roller's handle and attached it to the speaker. Besides that, I used the eraser tool to remove the string from the handle and I added the shadow using the brush tool and applied gaussian blur effect to smoothen the shadow. I then drew on the highlights of the oscillation diagram onto the mat using brush tool. I also coloured the surface of the speaker to be slightly grey after masking the surface.  After that, I added the words into. the poster that I created in Adobe Illustrator. I edited the words to have textures and

REFLECTION

Throughout this project, I learned a lot about how to blend images realistically and apply extra elements to create a convincing final product that was combined using 2 different objects. For the first task, it was challenging to smoothen the two images to make both images appear naturally connected. In the end, I understand how image selection and balance curve play a big role in creating a smooth composition.

While working, I observed that photos with similar tones and shades of black and white blend more effectively. Small changes in adding gradient layer or brightness made a big difference in the final look.  It also pushed me to find connections between the two items especially when creating the text for them. In addition, I also had fun designing the fonts to match the object and look cohesive to the overall concept. Although I struggled for some parts of this process (drawing the oscillogram and deciding the font used), it was fun especially when I was satisfied with the final outcome.
