23/02/2026 - 13/03/2026 (Week 4 - Week 6) Chan Xin Yean, 0377851 Design Principles Task 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS 1. Lectures 2. Instructions 3. Visual Analysis 4. Ideation 5. Feedback LECTURES Lecture 6 :  Visual Analysis Visual analysis  is a method of understanding design focused on visual elements and principles. It can recognise the choice that a designer made when creating a design and understanding the properties of design create visual communication. It has 3 phases : Phase 1: Observation Closely looking and identifying the visual elements of a design Describe them carefully and accurately in ones own words without reading beforehand about the design Looking, thinking and finding good language to communicate what one notice Phase 2: Analysis Requires one to think about the observations and try to make statements Combine visual elements identified to create design principles that complete that work Phase 3: Interpretation Fuse facts with observations, description...

Intercultural Design - Task 1 : Proposal

03/02/2026 - 20/02/2026 (Week 1 - Week 3) Chan Xin Yean, 0377851 Intercultural Design Task 1 LECTURES Lecture 01 : Culture & Design Visuals are everything that can be seen and everything produced or created by humans that can be seen. It is processed 60000x faster in the brain than text. Besides that 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual. Design significance is where. one is able to identify the social,  cultural & political sphere where design elements reside.  Figure 1.0 Example of Design Significance from Lecture Slide Design systems are separated by basic assumptions (values, principles & practices) then norms and values (look & feel, design elements & design functions) and artifacts and products (tools & technology).  Figure 1.1 Example of Design System from Lecture Slide Design Sensitivity Cultural Sensitivity Awareness Symbolism and Imagery: May carry different meanings in different cultures. Designers should be min...

09/02/2026 - 27/02/2026 (Week 2 - Week 4) Chan Xin Yean, 0377851 Design Principles Task 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS 1. Lectures 2. Instructions 3. Exploration 4. Final Write-up 5. Feedback LECTURES Lecture 0 : Introduction   Elements of Design (Individual Building Blocks) Point - simplest element of design and used as repetitive mark forms a line Line - can be active or static, aggressive or passive, sensual or mechanical, can indicate directions, define boundaries and imply volumes Shape - expanse within outline of 2 dimensional area and has 2 generic category ( geometric & organic) Form - 3 dimensional area that has volume (enclosed space) Texture - tactile qualities of surfaces or the visual representation of those qualities and also has 2 categories (actual & simulated/implied) Space - indefinable, general receptacle of things Colour - visual byproduct of the spectrum of light ( Hue, Value, Intensity) Colour grouping that provide distinct colour harmonies are called co...
