Week 1

AdTypo 1: Typographic Systems

Typographic systems are like the rules architects use to design shapes. They follow a set of guidelines that give structure and help guide decisions with a clear purpose. They actually provide a strong foundation and help learners explore with direction, while their creativity and intuition gradually grow over time.

Types of Systems

Axial: Elements are organised to the left or right on a single axis (does not have to be straight)
Radial: Elements are extended from a point of focus
Dilatational: Elements expand from a central point in a circular manner (could have multiple rings)
Random: Elements appear to have no specific pattern or relationship
Grid: System of vertical and horizontal divisions
Transitional: Informal system of layered banding
Modular: Series of non-objective elements that are constructed as a same size
Bilateral: Text arranged symmetrically on a single axis
