PROCESS WORK

After teacher suggested that we proceed with the 1st idea (Braille Code on LRT signs) and the 3rd idea (Shaded Sitting Area in Titiwangsa Park). After some discussion, we decided to choose the 3rd idea for our field study. Besides that, we also decided on visiting Titiwangsa Park on Tuesday afternoon as it was the hottest time of the day.

It was my first time going to the park and it was bigger than expected. There were a few parts of the park with many activities to do, which includes horse riding, boat paddling and even dining restaurants. We mainly focused on the area surrounding the west lake. Although it was a weekday afternoon, there were still a handful of people visiting this park.

During our field study, we took pictures of the shaded area available in the park. There were some places with shaded seats that are poorly maintained, with a part of the glass roof shattered and some with run-down shaded area while others with no shades. There were also grass patches that were unused and unmaintained.

After taking the photos, we went around and interviewed the visitors at the park. From the interviews, people generally had a problem with the heat and how some areas has not enough shades. After we are done with the interview, we separated our parts of the tasks with Me and Xi Tien doing the research parts, Nicole with the field study, Cheyenne doing the interview transcript and results while Jia Xuan and Yee Leng doing the design modification part for our shade ideas.

We decided to do the research on a google document before placing everything in the google slide. After week 5 feedback, teacher told us to explain and justify the modifications for the design features that we had, so we added that into our slides after we are done compiling the contents. Teacher also told us to change the sketches to better show how the shade works. After the changes are made, teacher said everything was okay.

FEEDBACK

Week 4
Teacher suggested we choose idea 1 and idea 3 to proceed as we can do field study for them. He also gave us a few ideas on how we could conduct our data collection, with the first one being choosing a lrt and take pictures for the possible location of the braille codes and the second idea being taking pictures and videos around the park along with conducting interviews with the visitors.

Week 5
Teacher said that we should add justifications and explanations to the features we added. Besides that, he said that the sketches were unclear and told us to redraw the design. Other than that, everything is okay.

REFLECTION

In this task, we conducted a field study around the park and interviewed several park users to better understand their needs regarding sun protection and outdoor comfort. Through the observation, we were able to identify areas that lacked proper shading and noticed that many visitors tended to gather under trees or existing shelters to avoid direct sunlight. The interviews also provided useful insights, as some users mentioned that the park can become very hot during the afternoon and that additional shaded seating areas would improve their experience. This field study helped us understand the real problems faced by park users and allowed us to design a sunshade solution that is more user-centered and practical. Working with my group also improved our teamwork and communication skills as we shared different observations and ideas when analysing the site.
